Are Changes Coming For Rifle And Shotgun Purchases?

The American Medical Association, who have been supportive of background checks and waiting periods for a considerable number of years, are now changing their policy and advocating the same checks and waiting period be put in place for shotgun and rifle purchases as well. The organization would also like to see the CDC involved in deeper studies on gun violence, in order to attempt to prevent more shootings.

The change comes a day after AMA announced it would actively lobby Congress to lift a measure that bans the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from researching gun violence and treat the issue as a public health crisis.

“An epidemiological analysis of gun violence is vital so physicians and other health providers, law enforcement, and society at large may be able to prevent injury, death and other harms to society resulting from firearms,” Stack said.

Those in the pro-gun camp will continue to fight against these proposed changes and investigative measures.
