School’s Censorship of American Flag Leads to Major Protest

There are just some American symbols you simply do not mess with. One of the biggest is our flag.

When school administrators told high school senior Peyton Robinson to remove the flags he had flying proudly from the back of his truck, it stirred a tremendous amount of pride and patriotism in his community.

Mr. Robinson had Old Glory flying alongside a POW/MIA flag, and cited a school administrator claimed there had been complaints. At one point, Mr. Robinson was asked to meet with administration in the parking lot, where someone had unbolted his flags, and laid them in the back of his truck, with out his permission or even being present for the act.

“I’m not trying to prove a point,” Robinson said, “but I’m a U.S. citizen, and I have the right to fly the flag if I want to.” Read more

The rioters around the country might take a page from this community’s book. Their peaceful, flag waving display of true American patriotism soon had the school reversing course and allowing the flag display.

Due to the outstanding display of patriotism through peaceful demonstration, it is apparent to us that many are not happy about this policy. School officials have reviewed the standing policy regarding flags and have decided that an exception will be made for the American flag, as long as the size of the flag(s) does not create a driving hazard.

We appreciate the passion and pride of all who have called or come by YCHS over the past 24 hours. America was founded by Patriots who led positive change in a myriad of ways. We believe today is a great example of peaceful demonstration leading to positive change. This is the very process we advocate in our Social Studies classrooms and the fabric of American citizenship. Thank you for helping us as we educate the students of our community.
