Gun Control Groups Newest Tactic

Gun control groups and partnering ad agencies hope its newest “end family fire” campaign will become as ubiquitous as “friends don’t let friends drive drunk” when it comes to preventing unintentional deaths.

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the Ad Council launched a series of print and television advertisements Wednesday encouraging safe storage practices among gun owners. The date, Aug. 8, references the eight children and teens killed by unlocked or unsupervised guns each day, according to CDC data compiled by the Brady Center.

A study published in the Journal of Urban Health this year estimates 4.6 million children live in homes with an unlocked, loaded gun. Meanwhile, gun-related injuries hospitalize 20 children and adolescents daily, according to a review published in the June 2017 edition of Hospital Pediatrics.

Fatalities involving firearms are one of the top four leading causes of death for American youth, according to the article “Pediatric Firearm-Related Injuries in the United States,” with more than 4,500 under the age of 21 dying in 2015. Lead author Dr. Kavita Parikh, associate professor of pediatrics at Children’s National Health System, said research suggests 39 percent of parents wrongly believe their children don’t know where guns are stored in the home.

“We want everyone who is driving down the street, listening to the radio, watching TV, to hear this term, to go to our website and to internalize what family fire is,” said Kris Brown, a president of the Brady Center, in an interview with the New York Times this week.

Ad Council serves as the brains behind successful campaigns including Smokey the Bear, McGruff the Crime Dog and Crash Test Dummies. “We focus on issues for the long haul, and when we take one on, our focus is to stay at it until the issue goes away,” said Lisa Sherman, chief executive of the Ad Council, told the newspaper.

Those gun controllers can and will always come up with another truly brilliant idea. Unfortunately, valid public interests are poorly served by the opium smoke offered, aka their brilliant ideas.

Note that prior to 1960 guns where common in our schools as gun clubs and sport shooting clubs could be found even in parts of New York as well as California.

Such a crock of BS! This is not even close to what these a$$hats are trying to do. This is nothing but another pack of salacious lies being sold to the American Citizens to bolster a socialist/communist agenda of disarming the people. Come on folks…you have to know something is fishy when China is backing everything these turd throw out there. Vote the demoncraps out of office in November. Get rid of the socialists/communists once and for all.

Tell ’em to provide a breakdown of the statistics. The great majority of “children’s gun deaths” are thugs and gangbangers under the age of 26

      • KVandy

        Here’s a few facts that the demoncraps consistently overlook (gee, I wonder why???);

        In the USA…

FACT: almost HALF of gun deaths are caused by suicide

FACT: of the remaining half, the majority are gang related

FACT: The majority of gun crimes in this country are committed by individuals ages 18-25, with individuals 14-17 close behind. These little hoods don’t obtain their guns through legal means and therefore would never be subject to a background check or any other gun laws on the books.

FACT: LESS than 1% of criminals convicted of gun crimes obtained their weapons legally.

FACT: There were more gun crimes committed during the time feinstein’s “gun ban” was in effect

FACT: Violent crime in general has been decreasing over the last 10 years (hmmm…could that be because there are more law-abiding citizens who are armed?)

FACT: most murderers aren’t using guns to kill. They are strangling, stabbing, drowning, torturing and beating to death, their victims.

FACT: there are more deaths caused by smoking than there are by guns

FACT: the cities in this country with the most stringent and strict gun laws have the highest crime rates.

FACT: the “people who go to our schools” and kill our children are criminals regardless of whether they are sick or not. They do not have easy access to guns, they obtained them illegally by stealing them from someone else or purchasing them through illegal means. There have been very few instances where someone who’s actually purchased a gun legally has gone on a shooting spree.

FACT: Background checks were made mandatory in all 50 States when mir aimal kansi did what he did back in 1993. All this BS being spewed by demoncraps is garbage. All that needs to be done is to enforce the existing laws.

FACT: In the USA the average firearms per 100 people is over 90 (probably more now as my information is a couple of years old and I was to lazy to go update it…sorry.). The average number of civilian firearms in the USA is over 300,000,000. The percent of homicides by firearm in the USA is about 60%.

Now considering that we have more than 90 times the weapons in citizens hands and only 5 times the number of gun-related homicides, than Australia, I think the odds are in our favor that our existing gun laws do work for the law-abiding citizens. Our homicide rates would drop by more than half if gang-related issues were ferreted out and controlled with more enthusiasm by law enforcement and the government. Considering that almost half of the remaining are suicides, that actually makes our gun-related homicide rate fairly small…AND…the majority of these are gang-related shootings.

Of ALL of the mass shootings that have occurred over the last 10 years, EVERY SINGLE individual carrying out the crime was KNOWN to have mental issues. These issues were brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities and they did nothing about it. Law-abiding Citizens of this country, and their weapons, are NOT the problem. Seems to me the problem points more toward inappropriate enforcement of the laws and the negligence of those who do nothing when incidents are reported to them.

From an article originally published July 17, 2014

          1. Highlights

          * Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day.(1) This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.

          * Even anti-gun Clinton researchers concede that guns are used 1.5 million times annually for self-defense. According to the Clinton Justice Department, there are as many as 1.5 million cases of self-defense with a firearm every year. The National Institute of Justice published this figure in 1997 as part of “Guns in America”—a study which was authored by noted anti-gun criminologists Philip Cook and Jens Ludwig.

          * Concealed carry laws have reduced murder and crime rates in the states that have enacted them. According to a comprehensive study which reviewed crime statistics in every county in the United States from 1977 to 1992, states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their rate of murder by 8.5%, rape by 5%, aggravated assault by 7% and robbery by 3%.

          * Anti-gun journal pronounces the failure of the Brady law. One of the nation’s leading anti-gun medical publications, the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that the Brady registration law has failed to reduce murder rates. In August 2000, JAMA reported that states implementing waiting periods and background checks did “not [experience] reductions in homicide rates or overall suicide rates.”

          * Twice as many children are killed playing football in school than are murdered by guns. That’s right. Despite what media coverage might seem to indicate, there are more deaths related to high school football than guns. In a recent three year period, twice as many football players died from hits to the head, heat stroke, etc., as compared with students who were murdered by firearms during that same time period.

          * More guns, less crime. In the decade of the 1990s, the number of guns in this country increased by roughly 40 million—even while the murder rate decreased by almost 40% percent. Accidental gun deaths in the home decreased by almost 40 percent as well.

          * CDC admits there is no evidence that gun control reduces crime. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has long been criticized for propagating questionable studies which gun control organizations have used in defense of their cause. But after analyzing 51 studies in 2003, the CDC concluded that the “evidence was insufficient to determine the effectiveness of any of these [firearms] laws.”

          * Gun shows are NOT a primary source of illegal guns for criminals. According to two government studies, the National Institute of Justice reported in 1997 that “less than two percent [of criminals] reported obtaining [firearms] from a gun show.”(10) And the Bureau of Justice Statistics revealed in 2001 that less than one percent of firearm offenders acquired their weapons at gun shows.

          * Several polls show that Americans are very pro-gun. Several scientific polls indicate that the right to keep and bear arms is still revered—and gun control disdained—by a majority of Americans today. To mention just a few recent polls:

          * In 2002, an ABC News poll found that almost three-fourths of the American public believe that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects the rights of “individuals” to own guns.

          * Zogby pollsters found that by a more than 3 to 1 margin, Americans support punishing “criminals who use a gun in the commission of a crime” over legislation to “ban handguns.”

          * A Research 2000 poll found that 85% of Americans would find it appropriate for a principal or teacher to use “a gun at school to defend the lives of students” to stop a school massacre.

          * A study claiming “guns are three times more likely to kill you than help you” is a total fraud. Even using the low figures from the Clinton Justice Department, firearms are used almost 50 times more often to save life than to take life. More importantly, however, the figure claiming one is three times more likely to be killed by one’s own gun is a total lie:

          * Researcher Don Kates reveals that all available data now indicates that the “home gun homicide victims [in the flawed study] were killed using guns not kept in the victim’s home.”

          * In other words, the victims were NOT murdered with their own guns! They were killed “by intruders who brought their own guns to the victim’s household.”

          * Gun-free England not such a utopia after all. According to the BBC News, handgun crime in the United Kingdom rose by 40% in the two years after it passed its draconian gun ban in 1997.(18) And according to a United Nations study, British citizens are more likely to become a victim of crime than are people in the United States. The 2000 report shows that the crime rate in England is higher than the crime rates of 16 other industrialized nations, including the United States.

          2. Self-defense

          A. Guns save more lives than they take; prevent more injuries than they inflict

          * Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.

          * Of the 2.5 million times citizens use their guns to defend themselves every year, the overwhelming majority merely brandish their gun or fire a warning shot to scare off their attackers. Less than 8% of the time, a citizen will kill or wound his/her attacker.(22)

          * As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.

          * Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606). And readers of Newsweek learned that “only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high.”

          * Handguns are the weapon of choice for self-defense. Citizens use handguns to protect themselves over 1.9 million times a year. Many of these self-defense handguns could be labeled as “Saturday Night Specials.”

          B. Concealed carry laws help reduce crime

          * Nationwide: one-half million self-defense uses. Every year, as many as one-half million citizens defend themselves with a firearm away from home.

          * Concealed carry laws are dropping crime rates across the country. A comprehensive national study determined in 1996 that violent crime fell after states made it legal to carry concealed firearms. The results of the study showed:

          * States which passed concealed carry laws reduced their rate of murder by 8.5%, rape by 5%, aggravated assault by 7% and robbery by 3%

          * If those states not having concealed carry laws had adopted such laws in 1992, then approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and over 11,000 robberies would have been avoided yearly.

          * Vermont: one of the safest five states in the country. In Vermont, citizens can carry a firearm without getting permission . . . without paying a fee . . . or without going through any kind of government-imposed waiting period. And yet for ten years in a row, Vermont has remained one of the top-five, safest states in the union—having three times received the “Safest State Award.”

          * Florida: concealed carry helps slash the murder rate in the state. In the fifteen years following the passage of Florida’s concealed carry law in 1987, over 800,000 permits to carry firearms were issued to people in the state. FBI reports show that the homicide rate in Florida, which in 1987 was much higher than the national average, fell 52% during that 15-year period—thus putting the Florida rate below the national average.

          * Do firearms carry laws result in chaos? No. Consider the case of Florida. A citizen in the Sunshine State is far more likely to be attacked by an alligator than to be assaulted by a concealed carry holder.

          * During the first fifteen years that the Florida law was in effect, alligator attacks outpaced the number of crimes committed by carry holders by a 229 to 155 margin.

          * And even the 155 “crimes” committed by concealed carry permit holders are somewhat misleading as most of these infractions resulted from Floridians who accidentally carried their firearms into restricted areas, such as an airport.

          * Concealed Carry v. Waiting Period Laws. In 1976, both Georgia and Wisconsin tried two different approaches to fighting crime. Georgia enacted legislation making it easier for citizens to carry guns for self-defense, while Wisconsin passed a law requiring a 48 hour waiting period before the purchase of a handgun. What resulted during the ensuing years? Georgia’s law served as a deterrent to criminals and helped drop its homicide rate by 21 percent. Wisconsin’s murder rate, however, rose 33 percent during the same period.

Here’s some information that is more current than some of mine….

There are over 1 billion firearms in the world today, including 857 million in civilian hands, of which American men and women the dominant owners.

The Small Arms Survey says 393 million of the civilian-held firearms, 46 percent, are in the United States, which is “more than those held by civilians in the other top 25 countries combined.”

“The key to the United States, of course, is its unique gun culture,” the report’s author, Aaron Karp, said at a news conference. “American civilians buy an average of 14 million new firearms every year, and that means the United States is an overwhelming presence on civilian markets.”

The report said the numbers include legal and illegal firearms in civilian hands, ranging from improvised craft weapons to factory-made handguns, rifles, shotguns and, in some countries, even machine guns.

Federal Bureau of Investigation background check records suggest that civilians bought more than 2 million guns in May 2017 alone, which means civilians purchase more than double the number of firearms owned by police departments. The number of gun-related civilian background checks in May and April, at over 4.7 million, is greater than the number of firearms currently owned by the American military.

The FBI reported processing more than 25.2 million gun-related civilian background checks in 2017, which is more than the 22.7 million guns the Small Arms Survey estimates are currently held by every law enforcement agency in the world combined. Between 2012 and 2017, the FBI reported conducting more than 135 million civilian gun checks—more than the 133 million guns the Small Arms Survey estimates are in all the world’s military stockpiles.

The Small Arms Survey estimated there are about 1 billion firearms currently in circulation throughout the world. By its estimate, about 85 percent are owned by civilians and American civilians own nearly 40 percent of all the guns in the world. Researchers said worldwide firearms ownership was up since the last time they studied the issue about a decade ago.

This, of course, makes the USA, by far, #1 in civilian gun ownership in the world with the next closest being India at about 70 million. There are more civilian-owned guns in the US than their are people Most people, I think, understand that but don’t really grasp what it means.

Every law enforcement agency in America, combined, has about 1 million firearms in their inventory. That means American civilians have about 400 TIMES as many firearms as American police.

In May alone, American civilians bought somewhere around 2 million firearms. That’s twice as many firearms as every police department in America combined IN A SINGLE MONTH.

Similarly, the American military is estimated to hold about 4.5 million firearms. That means American civilians have 100 TIMES as many firearms as every branch of the American military COMBINED.

If you combine May and April’s gun-related background check numbers you get 4.7 million. That means the American public bought more guns IN JUST THE LAST TWO MONTHS than the entire American military has on hand.

Furthermore, the Small Arms Survey estimates all the world’s law enforcement agencies combined hold about 22.7 million guns. In 2017 alone, the FBI processed 25.2 million gun checks. The American public bought more guns in 2017 than every police agency in the world combined.

Between 2012 and 2017, the FBI did more than 135 million civilian gun checks. That’s more than the estimated 133 million guns held by ALL THE WORLD’S MILITARIES COMBINED.

There is NO WAY ON THIS EARTH the American Citizens can be forced to bend to socialism or communism without one hell of a fight. This all makes it a lot easier to understand why the demoncrap socialists/communists are pushing so hard for more gun control and abolishing the Second Amendment. It would be wise for EVERYONE to remember…without the Second Amendment, there will be no Constitution or Bill of Rights.

      • KVandy

I get so sick of these half-wit demoncrap gun grabbers and their BS lies. I guess these idiots have never heard of Albert Fish, Coral Eugene Watts, Richard Angelo, Gary Ridgeway, Ed Gein, Richard Ramirez, Tony Sowell, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Tim McVeigh, and literally hundreds of others. These “people” are some of the most vile mass-murderers in our history and they didn’t use a gun to kill their victims.

Albert Fish was a child rapist and cannibal who confessed to killing and torturing H U N D R E D S of children in New York. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1935. During the trial, Fish said he heard voices in his head that told him to attack children.

Coral Eugene Watts was identified by his doctors as a dangerous and violent person. He was the so-called Sunday Morning Slasher and confessed to killing 80 women in Michigan, Texas and Canada. He strangled, drowned, stabbed and beat his victims to death.

Richard Angelo, the “Angel of Death, was a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in New York. He killed 25 patients in an absurd and botched plan to turn himself into a hero. He injected patients with a cocktail of dangerous drugs in the misguided hopes of restoring them to life and building a reputation for himself as a life-saving medical professional.

Gary Ridgeway killed 48 women in the Seattle area. He became known as the Green River Killer. His case was one of the bloodiest in the country and not by the use of a gun.

Edward Gein, slayed women by torture and dismemberment as well as robbed graves. He flayed the bodies and used human skin and other body parts to decorate furniture and clothing in his decrepit farmhouse. Remember the movie “The Silence of the Lambs?” This was the real life guy.

Richard Ramirez, aka “Night Stalker,” terrorized the Los Angeles with his killing spree. A satanic worshiper, he stabbed, slashed, decapitated and beat to death the majority of his victims. He did, on several occasions, us a pistol in the commission of his crimes.

Anthony Sowell, aka “Cleveland Strangler,” was convicted and sentenced to death in 2011 for killing 11 women and keeping their remains in his Cleveland home. He was a known violent offender who was in and out or prison several times.

Ted Bundy was a serial killer, rapist, kidnapper, and also a necrophile. He assaulted and murdered countless young women and girls. His MO was decapitation, but he also used a lot of other methods to kill and torture his victims. He never, to my knowledge, used a gun.

Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys. He beat most of his victims to death before dismembering them and, in some cases, eating them. Dahmer tried to turn some of victims into zombies” by drilling holes in their skulls and injecting hydrochloric acid or boiling water into the frontal lobe area of their brains. He believed he could create a submissive sex partner for himself.

Tim McVeigh (bomber), Dean Corll, John Wayne Gacy (aka the Killer Clown), Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi (aka the Hillside Stranglers), Eddie Leonski, Harry Powers, William Hickman, Jennifer San Marco, Larry Ashbrook, Andrew Kehoe, Joseph Lapage, Louis Wagner, Franklin Evans (aka the Northwood Monster), Anton Probst, Lydia Sherman (aka Queen Poisoner), Albert Hicks, Colin Ferguson, Aileen Wuornos, David Lewis Rice (used a TOY gun), Alton and Debra Brown, and the list goes on and on.

Not ONE, not a single one of the aforementioned people used an “assault rifle” in the commission of their crimes, and only a couple used a gun of any kind. Some of these individuals were mentally disturbed, or delusional, and not receiving any kind of mental healthcare, others were not.

Banning guns does nothing to stop anyone who wants to kill, except embolden the individual to commit their dirty deed(s). More gun laws wouldn’t have stopped a single one of the aforementioned individuals.

Demoncraps are nothing but weasels preying on the fear of people, in an effort to further their communist agenda of disarming the American Citizens. If these socialist/communist jackwads were really interested in protecting the Citizens of this Country, then they, and the rest of their vile cohorts, wouldn’t be breaking the law and protecting illegal immigrants.

Guns are what number on the list of children deaths? Behind household pets, texting while driving, medical malpractice, drugs, household chemicals, care accidents, drunk drivers, sure seems like we have a lot of things to ban from our lives, hope you don’t have a swimming pool!

I do not understand the number of 8 per day, but I suspect that it is grossly misleading.
    1) The article also quotes total ‘children’s’ deaths at 4500, Divided by 365, this would be 12 per day.
It seems very unlikely that 2/3 of those would be accidental home shootings.
    2) Also, see numbers about shooting with handguns due to gang-related activity.
Most reports seem to suggest something comparable to 4500.
    3) Many of those deaths seem to be males between 15 and 21.

    4) The original Pediatrics report did not give a breakdown of number of children under 15
or any idea of innocent versus gang-members.

    5) Other reports seem to suggest a whole lot less than 50%, maybe less than 10% were under 15.
    6) So, even if the 8 per day number was real, the number of children less than 15 would be 0.8/day.
Still horrible, if it were true. However, it is reasonable to assume 25% of Americans are under 15.
    0.25 * 300 Million = 75 Million. 0.8/75 Million = 1 chance in 93 Million of dying from some accidental
gun issue. While this is small, it still seems way too high. Likely the 0.8 per day is way too high.
