Gun Makers Fight Back Against NY

Ammunition giant Hornady is cutting off government buyers in New York over an order by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to financial services companies regarding gun politics.

Steve Hornady, the company’s president of manufacturing, announced on social media on Friday that the ammo maker will halt sales of their products to Cuomo’s state government or agencies in the Empire State. The move comes after an order directed by Cuomo earlier last month that cautioned banks, insurance companies and lenders against involvement with the National Rifle Association and similar organizations. Slamming the Governor’s move as one of the most “despicable acts ever perpetrated by any state,” Hornady closed the doors to the state.

“While it may not make a difference to New York, Hornady will not knowingly allow our ammunition to be sold to the Government of the State of NY or any NY agencies,” Hornady said. “Their actions are a blatant and disgusting abuse of office and we won’t be associated with a government that acts like that.”

The guidance issued by Cuomo came from the state’s Department of Financial Services on April 19 in the form of official letters to all DFS-regulated insurers and banks in the state. In the missives, Financial Services Superintendent Maria Vullo urged financial institutions to examine their relationships with the NRA and organizations that promote guns to take “prompt actions to manage these risks” when it came to protecting their corporate reputations. Pointing to the public backlash on gun rights groups and firearm companies in the wake of a high-profile mass shootings that have dominated the news cycle, Vullo encouraged those regulated by her agency that “Corporations are demonstrating that business can lead the way and bring about the kind of positive social change needed to minimize the chance that we will witness more of these senseless tragedies.”

In recent weeks, big-name lenders such as Citi and Bank of America have adopted new policies that could see them cut ties with partnering businesses unwilling to adopt new policies for selling firearms or manufacturing some types of semi-automatic guns — which has in turn brought calls for more regulatory oversight of the institutions with respect to government contracts.

Hornady is one of the premier ammunition suppliers to law enforcement in the country. The company recently was awarded a $19 million contract to provide a new generation of 9mm duty rounds to the FBI.

  • John Smith

They should ban any state that does this.

  • Alan404

Hornady is to be congratulated for it’s decision to cut off Cuomo’s Police State Apparatus. It would be entirely appropriate for other firms to take similar action. This dictator and his cronies need to learn the following lesson. What goes around, comes around.

    • richardwfaith

“What goes around comes around”, yes indeed. My wife calls this process “wiping your ass with a Hula Hoop”.

    • pappy450

We NORTHERN N.Y. residents refer to him as “KING” andrew the communist dictator. He and his DEMOCOMMUNIST “court jesters” convene mainly at night to push unconstitutional “LAWS” through so no one knows what they are “up to”, until he has a “announcement” of the signing of his “royal decrees”.

      • disqus_sTpvkg7Dzr

Wow it sounds like you are talking about California there

        • pappy450

It seems that anything MOONBEAM BROWN in MEXIFORNIA tries, and gets away with, “king andrew” and “king” deblasio copies. They seem to be vying for WHO can be the most CORRUPT TYRANNICAL RULER/DICTATOR and still get “elected”.(by voter fraud , welfare recipients, “city dwellers”, and illegal immigrants. (yes ILLEGALS WERE NOT ONLY “ALLOWED” BUT ENCOURAGED TO DO SO in N.Y. as well as MEXIFORNIA)

        • hdrider

that’s just what I was thinking, sounds like the way “moonbeam” works!

      • Ken Kaminski

But remember you voted for that idiot

        • pappy450

How do YOU know who I voted for? I am from NORTHERN N.Y. and do NOT vote for corrupt communist “demoncrat” dictators. The only way “king” andrew got in, was the “city dwellers”, illegal immigrants, and welfare recipients with promises of “free stuff and “special treatment ” as long as they remained on the COMMUNIST “plantation”… We Northern N.Y. residents are always outvoted by the “city”. THAT is why we need to break into two “states” also.

    • Cuhomo needs his head cut off.

    • Ken Kaminski

They need to add California , Illinois ,and any other state that takes away our American rights

  • generalJed

Every firearm company should follow Barrett’s lead and not sell to any state entity which bans that firearm or maazine from being owned by the general public. Ammunition companies should not sell to state governmental agencies in New York, California, New Jersey, etc..

    • Randy A.

Not just ammo companies but ALL gun manufacturing and accessory companies also!

      • Larry Shriver

You’re absolutely right, Randy. If all the DUMB ASSES that try in any to restrict law-abiding citizens from fully enjoying their 2nd amendment rights, knew how much the economy is bolstered by the sales of firearms, ammunition, and all other associated gear; and the jobs that would be lost if the sales of those products were prohibited, I’m sure they would realize that we contribute greatly to the financial climate, they would probably be shocked.

    • richardwfaith

AMEN! For a dreadfully long overdue change, let GOVERNMENT know what it feels like to be defenseless! Much good may it do them!

    • Air_Force_Vet

The NY National Guard also reports directly to the governor. They should be cut off, too.

      • disqus_rEWjgfyzIp

After being in the Guard the lack of ammo or firearms will not prevent them from doing their jobs, it will have to be done in a different manner if firearms are required but can still be done. The only thing the Guard needs firearms for unless being deployed to a war zone is to prevent an enemy force from taking that state (which it all ready has) or stopping a civilian upraising against the current state government or stop looters in a natural disaster. Pass out the riot batons to accomplish that mission.

  • Magnus Thunderson

I dropped my long term membership in the NRA as fighting against banning straw buyers bump stocks oversized 50 /100 round clips and mandatory back ground checks for all sales is simply insane in the world we live in when our solution for the mentally ill is to leave them on the street till they do something to get them in jail

    • rick meek

your loss but my thanks to you for ridding yourself – saves others the trouble….

    • Tom

I’m sorry that you were not a loyal NRA member, but that’s your choice. I am a life member and I think the NRA does a lot of good, they teach gun safety and help the young person that is not knowledge with guns, to learn to respect the importance of gun safety and how dangerous they can be if not handled properly. And like one other commenter said, the NRA does not sell guns, they just train people to use them properly, which I beleive is necessary in owning a firearm.

    • Bernie

      Magnus (putz),
      1. I could have sworn that murder is illegal. What more “gun control” do you need than that?!
      2. I own a gun and a bunch of sharp kitchen knives. Never have they ever hurt anyone. Should I bring them to a expert like you to make sure they’re working properly?
      3. Driving drunk is against the law. However, people still drive drunk and kill, no, murder people. Should we leave those automobiles in the street till they “do something to get them in jail”?
See how easy that was to make you look foolish?

      • Joe Beakley

I fail to see the connection.

        • Joe Beakley

After rereading who you were replying to I withdraw my comment.

  • Joey

This is what it looks like when big corporations such as citi bank and Bank of America become the government regulators. It’s no longer a country of the people, by the people, or for the people.
It’s Russia, China, North Korea, etc. the countries whose governments own all the corporations where only the top dogs live like kings and the populace are all servants…

    • richardwfaith

…and the New World DIS-“order” is just getting STARTED! YIKES!!!

  • richardwfaith

Looks like Hornady should be cutting off the FBI too!

  • rick meek

    Thank You Hornady……

  • A Vet

Okay, I am about to do all liberals a favor and not only identify one of the core reasons for school shootings but offer a solution! So a TRIGGER alert for those of you that can not handle the TRUTH!
First: The NRA HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SHOOTINGS!! THEY DO NOT SELL GUNS!😂
Second :Lets identify what all the deaths in these schools have in common.
ANSWER: They were all killed by classmates and former classmates.
Third: WHY DID the shooters kill their classmates?
ANSWER: With out fail most were reported to have been BULLIED and treated like garbage by their classmates. So I think they did what they did because 1) REVENGE (duh! Simple, I know) 2) They felt it was the only way to regain their “respect” 3) a few of them had mental problems stemming from other causes e.g. child abuse and again bullying , chemical imbalance etc which could have been helped with counseling.

So now that we have identified the core problem how to stop this tragedy from happening again?
Okay Class pay CLOSE attention now:
Those of you that do not bully classmates keep an eye on those that do (because these bullies are almost as guilty as the shooters because they helped create the toxic environment that pushed the shooters to the breaking point) !
When you see bully going after someone, SAY SOMETHING! Say something to a teacher or to the bully if you can, but bring attention to the bullies action so that they can be dealt with by teachers, parents, cops firemen whomever, Just find a way to help the victim!
If you are the one being bullied…SAY SOMETHING! You do not have to suffer in silence, tell a teacher, parent, etc.

Now for all of you BULLIES…. I suggest you take a nice LOOOONG look in the mirror. Do not just gaze an admire if your clothes are on fleek (I hate these new terms…but whatever).
Look into your own eyes…I bet you see only emptiness, no joy (unless you truly take joy in bullying classmates in which case you need to go see a shrink, because you my friend are a budding sociopath), no respect,no nothing.

There, main problem identified and one possible solution given. There are probably more problems involved and more solutions that can be used. If that is so list other problems and other solutions.

And last but certainly not least: STOP PROTESTING THE NRA WHICH ONLY TRIES TO PROTECT THE SECOND AMENDMENT! THEY DO NOT SELL GUNS!
Instead PROTEST the BULLIES and their ENABLERS! Yes David Hog I am LOOKING at YOU as I say this!

my 5 cents (hey, inflation sucks) given!

Feel free o share and repost
    ~Dusty

    • richardwfaith

Damn right. One more item to add to your list: school-recommended and/or school-prescribed drugs to ADD, ADHD, etc. These have been shown in some cases to be catalysts for violent behavior.

    • James Stephens

Very good observation…..also remember that the schools with the shootings also on the same day had fire/emergency drills at the same time.( odd… wouldn’t you say?)

      • pappy450

Also HOGG-BOY was no where near the school when this went down (he was already graduated)
This was INDEED all “planned” as the “sheriff” and the FBI were BOTH WARNED and did NOTHING about it because they KNEW they had a “loose cannon” to USE to push their COMMUNIST anti-gun agenda.
THAT is the way DEMOCOMMUNISTS “operate”. They do NOT care how many lives are lost to achieve their ‘objectives” of complete CONTROL as long as they “get their way”. Deaths are considered ACCEPTABLE “collateral damage” You can ALSO “thank” OSCUMBAG for not “allowing” juvenile CRIMINALS to be “reported” by school officials.

        • Richard Starkel

In fact, to them, the more deaths the better.

        • Joe Beakley

Pappy450, I had read that Boy Hogg was not at school that day but not that he had already graduated. Is there information to support this? I hope so.

          • pappy450

Not only THAT…He apparently never even went to THIS school what I have read. I believe it was his sister that attended that school. NOT HIM. The information was posted on the internet , but the “cover-ups” have started and the posts are now hard to find unless someone took the time to save them.
All this little NAZI-FREAK is, is a soros-paid DNC (communist) PAWN.

        • Larry Shriver

If ya get right down to it, Hogg is probably happy that the shooting happened. He really doesn’t give a damn about the people being shot, but his appearances on tv have BOOSTED HIS SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE, and he has publicly stated he is happy for that. Just another savvy asshole who is using a tragedy to their benefit.

  • richardwfaith

Wanna put the First Amendment on STEROIDS??
    .
    DISARM THE GOVERNMENT!

  • keith andrew bounds

GOOD JOB Hornady!! HEAR!! HEAR!! (HOOR!! HOOR!! IN AFRIKAANS)!!!

  • Jmanjo

The State of New York should censure the governor and anyone else that tries to restrict the legal rights afforded by the Constitution. This is an illegal act by New York and Cuomo and the idiot Bloomberg need to butt out.

  • ChemTeacher

Hornaday is indeed doing it right….They are refusing to do business with a state that is unreasonable in terms of abiding by the 2nd amendment. NY State cannot buy Hornaday ammunition ….NYC should be added to the list as well….insane firearms policies that are DRACONIAN at best.

  • MajorPain

The Cumhole family is one of the biggest reasons why anything outside of New York City has been turned into a shit hole. His father attacked the people of the State to support the City of New York Mario’s 2 sons are perfect examples of a man jerking off in a Flower Pot and Raising Bloom’in IDIOTS!

  • Lynn Earl Morgan

Sure would like to see other company’s join in

  • Michael >O’Reilly

Interesting you can force a bakery to make a wedding cake for a gay marriage but a bank can deny use of a credit card for a weapon purchase and stop a supplier of ammo from doing business.

  • rich g

Cuomo and Diblaisio are morons😓. Laurel and Hardy reincarnated! Sorry New York!

  • Big Ed

I love it!! This is the way the game should be played. A few cities and states have decided to play hardball with gun and ammo companies. That is, of course, their right. That being said, the gun and ammo manufacturers need to stop supplying those cities and states. Liberal cities and states believe they can screw over the people’s right to own guns and to buy ammo and they devise bull sh** ways to ignore the second amendment. The liberal politicians know as well as I do that the problem with the second amendment is not the guns, it is their stupid rules (like “gun free zones”) that cause the problem. Dozens of reports have been written, including by the CDC, and these reports clearly show that more guns equals less crime. The Democrats want to ignore facts in favor of gun confiscation because they have plans for a time down the road when they can completely convert the country to socialism without fear of those pesky patriots with guns. These leftists are purely vile and evil devils.

    • Joe Beakley

Not sure it is their right. Maybe the populace should vote on items that effect them before they actually take place.

      • Big Ed

The public already voted on the second amendment. It is a significant part of our Constitution and that is the basis of our entire government and system of laws. If someone would like to challenge the second amendment and they think they can get the votes needed to eliminate it at every level required, we can talk again. Otherwise it is a settled issue. The current reading of the amendment says, “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

  • drhjmaue

Outstanding decision by Hornady in order to combat this back door to gun control these liberals will try anything and shame on any financial institution that responds to any state that tries to intimidate or otherwise coerce them into not serving certain industries they are opposed to it’s a very slippery slope.

  • coolman11

Thank you hornady! great company, we need more of this!

  • Mac147

Now I am so glad I buy Hornady Ammo from my gun dealer & SG. For their stand I will take a stand. If they have what I need, even if it costs more they will get my business because any Company that stands up for the Constitution & other groups Constitutional rights against a tyrannical government even if it is the almighty NY has my loyalty. Mac147

    • Larry Shriver

Mac 147……..There currently is a ” ME TOO ” campaign in regards to abuse of women, BUT we should also have one just like you stated about buying Hornady ammo, and support their stance by buying their ammo. ME TOO for buying Hornady !!!!

  • Battling Babe

Good for you Mr. Hornady. Show these government officials that think they are in charge of every part of American life, they can’t do whatever they want all of the time. Sometimes there is a price to pay for being a narcissist.

    • Juanito Ibañez

I am surprised that any of these law enforcement agencies would want to buy ammunition from a “terrorist” like Steve Hornady (Steve is a member of the Board of Directors for that noted “terrorist organization”: the National Rifle Association). /sarc

I will pass on your thanks and thoughts to Steve when I see him this weekend at the NRA National Convention in Dallas.

  • Old School

They want to penalize the law abiding citizen yet promote the killing of babies
    thru abortion.

  • Louis Deckard

    Thank God for Hornady !!!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏

  • Tom Slick

Wouldn’t it be something if all firearm and ammunition manufacturers refused to sell to any government agency that endorsed actions that infringe upon our 2nd amendment rights!!

    • Leslie Cavanah

Would teach some of these Govt. agency’s what payback feels like.

  • Leslie Cavanah

Way to go Mr. Hornady. Is it true that Bank of America is in on not providing financial support to gun/ammo manufacturers? If so, after about 50 years, my account will be soon closed with them. I have been an NRA member sense I was in Jr. high school, am a patron member now and will be a member till I die.

  • William Collins

All ammo and gun industry companies should refuse to do any business with any state of New York agency, etc. Let them order what they need from China or Russia, whom NY seems to have more in common with than America.

Power to “The People”. We need to retake our political system one issue at a time until this banana republic style tactic is no longer viable.Steve Hornady just earned my business. Thank God I moved from the clutches of the “Empire State ” decades ago. I really feel sorry for the patriots that live there as there are super nice people there under the thumb of wannabe socialist dictators…

  • Juanito Ibañez

I am wondering when all firearms and ammunition manufacturers are going to band together and cut off ALL sales to any and all governmental agencies of states with anti-gun policies like New York and The Рeоpleѕ Ѕоcіаlіstік Яeрublік оf Kаlіfоrиіѕtаи.

We need all those manufacturers to follow the example set by Ronnie Barrett WRT police in Kаlіfоrиіѕtаи.

Moreover; there is no authority in our Constitution for “super citizen” police and military to be exempted from laws like all the firearms laws in this country (the ‘Lautenberg Law’ being the one exception – and in my opinion, that law is unconstitutional by creating ‘ex post facto’ additional punishments for ‘crimes’ already adjudicated and penalties previously applied and served).

Additionally, if certain guns and ammunition are “inappropriate” for the citizens it is even more “inappropriate” for those “super citizens” who shoot unarmed people all-too-often:

‘Twenty percent of the people police shot were unarmed.’
    news.vice.com/en_ca/article/xwvv3a/shot-by-cops

And my ‘bottom line’ here is: “What part of ‘Shall NOT Be Infringed’ do you NOT understand???”

One politician who does not hide her hatred of both firearms and our Constitution is U.S. Senator (D-CA) Dianne Emiel Goldman Berman Feinstein [Blum]:

“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them . . . Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ’em all in, I would have done it.”
–CBS-TV’s 60 Minutes, February 5, 1995, speaking about her original `Assault Weapons Ban of 1994′

Multi-millionaire ($94,202,571 in 2014 dollars per Open Secrets.org) Democrat Mrs. Feinstein-Blum has “doubled down” with her newest bill to again ban the ‘Modern Militia Arms’ she calls ‘assault weapons’ with her S. 2095, ‘Assault Weapons Ban of 2017’:

“…to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited…”

  • gunman

Hornady has one my respect for standing their ground i will support them by using there ammo i would like to see this company move south where we respect them i live in south carolina and we enjoy safe shooting and hunting and respect our police but new york is s joke

  • Blue

    Way to go, Hornady!

  • Bob101st

Thank you Steve Hornady, for standing up to an idiot like Cuomo and his Financial Services Superintendent, Maria Vullo. New York has to be one of the most ridiculous Democrat led states in the country. I wonder if Mr. Cuomo could tell us the last time he heard of any firearm going out on it’s own to shoot someone. I truly feel sorry for the victims and their families of any shooting incident. However, the shootings are committed by “People” using guns, not guns using people. This is just another way the Democrats are coming after your 2nd Amendment Rights and I’m glad to see Mr. Hornady push back. I hope America wakes up and realizes Democrats and the leftist socialists want complete gun control. If America looses it’s right to keep and bear arms, then American citizens will eventually loose all other Rights and Freedoms granted by the Constitution. The Democrats are an international socialist party with complete government control as their goal. I am a retired Columbus, Ohio police lieutenant and my wife is from New York. New York does not honor retired police officers carrying firearms, as most other states allow. l will continue to by Hornady Ammunition and I will not spend a penny of my money on anything in New York, or From New York. Hornady ammunition will be useful when the leftist come to take our firearms. God Bless America and lets vote idiots like Cuomo and his cronies out of office.

  • CBUJAN

Hornady should move their operation to a gun friendly state.

  • marcus J

Hornady Ammunition is among the best , I commend and congratulate them for standing with the Constitution , We The People and against Government Tyranny and Despotism , Governor Cuomo is well known to be a corrupt Hard Left Fascist and if given the chance will easily take on the role of a Dictator , Despot and or Tyrant ,Much like Governor Jerry Brown

  • Proudvietvet58

Kudos to Hornady! Fight fire with fire!

To H3II with NY & Cuomo!

  • usmcb10

good for HORNADY more ammo and gun manufacturers should move their operations out of these gun hating states .Just recently Remington had to file bankruptcy ,Colt has had to do the same,MOVE out of these states and come to the south where we believe in the second amendment

  • rick meek

Man – I sure do support hornady for this – besides – they do make good products…..

  • Ken Kaminski

I will definitely be buying a lot more Hornady ammo in the near future
