Mom pulls gun during a Walmart ‘back to school’ scuffle to protect daughter

A scuffle in a Michigan Walmart over a notebook escalated when a woman pulled a loaded gun, scattering shoppers, and now state prosecutors reportedly are weighing whether to bring charges.

The trouble began when the woman’s 20-year-old daughter allegedly grabbed the notebook at the Walmart in Novi Monday from two other women.

“There was one left, some pushing resulted,” Novi Police Detective Scott Baetens told Fox 2 Detroit. “They began to argue who was the rightful purchaser of that notebook.”

The gun appeared when the scuffling grew more violent, with hair-pulling.

“She’s a valid (Concealed Pistol License) holder,” the detective said. “She pulled out her firearm and tells them to stop attacking her daughter while pointing the gun at them.”

Nobody got shot. The mere presence of the gun STOPPED the trouble. Seems a legitimate use of her firearm, beings that her daughter was attacked.

What part did ArmyAviator get wrong?

        • Earn nest

Her daughter did the attacking, the others the defending.

But,,,,she needed that book for her 6th grade history class…….Notice no one has questioned the racial background on the student. Care to guess.

Are you seriously bringing race into this?

          • Earn nest

I see you’re deplorable. Do you know I stood not three feet from an unprotected Hillary? Her makeup was perfect, her clothing was perfect, she even smelled good, not of sulfur or feces. I could sense her resentment and disgust but I said nothing, I found I pitied her. I also once drove around instead of over a water moccasin.

          • johnmcv

            Seriously? Nope.

          • tiredofcrookedcops

            she’s 20 and in 6th grade???????

          • johnmcv

            Well……………yeah…….but don’t quote me…..

          • Earn nest

            They have a video.

          • bannedbymotherjones✓ᴰᴱᴾᴸᴼᴿᴬᴮᴸᴱ

Yes, there is a video and I watched it.

    • tiredofcrookedcops

But who started it?? Her daughter or the other ladies. Said a 20 year old took from 2 ladies. Is her daughter the 20 year old and she started it.

      • ArmyAviator

I long ago gave-up on listening to FAKE NEWS.

  • BruceB

I think she over stepped the concealed carry permit regulations. There was no direct threat to life by anyone and in this case, pulling a gun could be considered assault.

    • Oakman

I don’t agree with you Bruce. What about great bodily harm ? or does that not exist in Michigan ?

      • BruceB

Sorry Oakman, I believe you to be incorrect .. See link:
        https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/when-can-pull-your-gun/

Answering a viewer letter about when it is OK to “use your gun as a
deterrent” gives us several “what if” scenarios. But the short answer is
simple: No. You cannot pull your gun and use it as a deterrent…unless you are facing a deadly threat.

        Once you pull your gun,
you have—in effect—threatened to use deadly force. If you are not
facing a deadly threat, you are committing a crime. As with any use of
your firearm, you have to assess the situation and make decisions based
on what’s happening AT THAT TIME.

        Reaction Time

Self-defense is typically a reactionary operation. We can’t
proactively use force. We must first be convinced that force is the only
option that will solve the problem. To that end, we need a bit more
information about the problem before we even threaten to use force.

Here is what Michigan has to say about it — basically your life has to be in danger

    • Negative. Read the CCW law books now, and attend a class.

    • johnmcv

People have died from receiving just one punch…….

  • Oakman

I have only one question. Was the CCW holder attacked in any way ? Was she pushed or thrown down as the story states ? If so, then i feel it was ok to draw down.Usually deadly force is ok if one is in fear of great bodily harm or death to another or themselves.

    • Nevada, under a Republican governor, finally got the Castle Law in effect in Nevada

  • Oakman

Its a lot different here in Nevada. Our CCW law basically says says ” what a reasonable person believes that himself or another is in danger of great bodily harm or imminent death can use deadly force to stop the threat.”That the rule I follow as a CCW holder.

    • That is what I liked about Nevada when I got my CCW there at the Gun Store on Tropicana. Also, Nevada also provides the documents to get a Florida CCW. I currently have an Az, Nv, Maine, and Florida CCW, covering the vast majority of the states, I travel to.

  • All over a notebook in Walmart? Really?

    • bannedbymotherjones✓ᴰᴱᴾᴸᴼᴿᴬᴮᴸᴱ

I’m not that surprised it happened in a WalMart.

      • johnmcv

Shopping in Walmart is like riding a Greyhound bus…..you always meet the nicest people.

    • Yes. Read my comments above to understand

  • monongahela

I`ll bet the women that attack the girl holding the note book are black but they never expected this woman to stand up for her rights.

  • Funny how things happen. My wife was shopping with my grandkids at a Mesa, Arizona Walmart. As they were walking out, the exit was surrounded by unmarked police cars. This guy, hurried up to walk out the door with my wife and grandkids, so it would look like he was with them. When the police were searching him, for assault to murder. The guy, used an ink pen to try and murder a member of the clergy, and was pushing the pen into his eye socket. When my wife, got home, after being held there due to the many police officers, she began carrying a .357 in her purse, and has a valid CCW. So next time………..

I am a retired law officer and license to carry holder in Texas. I have spent a big portion of my life training in the proper defensive use of firearms. This woman’s daughter initiated the incident by grabbing the notebook from one of the other women. The woman should have called her daughter down and returned the notebook. I am a big believer I individuals carrying for personal defense, but this woman was wrong and should have her license suspended. She is lucky she is not being charged with assault so far.

  • Alan404

Sounds like all parties concerned desesrve a swift boot in their collective tail. By the way, is one to believe that Walmart is the only place where a school notebook could be obtained? If that is the case, then unfortunately the following question is all to appropriate. what the devil has this country gotten to be, and also WHY.

    • Fred

Sounds like a replay of the “Cabbage Patch Kid” incident a few years ago, except guns weren’t involved then!

  • Still Watchin

If the item was in the possession of the other individuals, They had intent to purchase said item, and the daughter took said item from the individuals without their assent, then it constituted a theft. In such case the mother is now accessory to the theft and the use of a gun is a felony theft.

  • George T Horvat

The woman should have her permit rescinded. The facts here are a bit sketchy but this does not sound like a situation where a loaded gun should be introduced into an verbal argument. There are plenty of Walmart security people available who should have been called into this situation.

    • Oakman

Walmart security, now that is a joke !

      • johnmcv

        Eggszaclee……..looks like an oxymoron.

      • Fred

        You got that right!

  • shadowlee

Would like to see vid. of what happened. Not enough info.

  • Paul Omlor

Sounds like the mothers daughter grab the tablet from the other ladies, she deserves to get her ass beat. Her mother on the other hand was trying to protect her criminal daughter with a gun, that makes her a thug.
