Yeti Parts Ways With NRA

The popular Austin-based maker of coolers, drinkware and ice chests quietly declined to do business with the National Rifle Association and quickly drew scorn for the decision.

Past NRA president and current head of the Unified Sportsmen of Florida, Marion Hammer, sent an alert Friday saying Yeti no longer wished to be a vendor or sell products to The NRA Foundation, a non-profit set up by the Second Amendment member organization to promote youth firearms training. Hammer said the move, coming from one of the most recognized names among outdoor companies without explanation, was unsportsmanlike.

“They have declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities,” Hammer said. “These activities enable them to appreciate America and enjoy our natural resources with wholesome and healthy outdoor recreational and educational programs.”

In response to the news, Twitter tags #NoYeti and #BoycottYeti became swamped with posts from gun enthusiasts as the company’s most recent post on Facebook drew over 3,800 comments, the majority slamming the cooler maker.

“As a lifetime NRA member the Yeti products I have will be trashed and I can assure you I will no longer support via purchasing/owning any Yeti products,” said Jeff Tucker in a comment that was liked over 2,100 times. “You have turned your back a large percentage of those who supported your brand and helped build it.”

Outdoor co-op REI has in the past weathered calls to consider dropping their vast catalog of Yeti products over their support of the NRA, and recently distanced themselves from Vista Outdoors, the parent of Smith & Wesson, but there is no indication that the move by Yeti was done to keep REI happy.

Among those celebrating the news from Yeti was Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts.

Meanwhile, when speaking of Yeti’s competitors, Orca sells a line of officially licensed NRA-branded coolers while RTIC over the weekend posted the text of the Second Amendment to the Constitution across their social media.

I called YETI this morning (512-394-9384), and spoke to Carly (a YETI CRS), and she assured me that it was simply a business decision to streamline YETI support across of the not-for-profit groups (https://www.yeti.com/press/….
It is not nefarious, nor was it against the NRA. In fact, she informed me that YETI filled NRA orders just this week.
Shame on misreporting the news, but I remind everyone to check their sources and facts before you spout your opinion without fact. You played directly into the hands to those who would manipulate you. You were duped and used!

Yeti’s products are way over priced and don’t always work as advertised. A recent test involving a walmart product at 1/2 the price did not perform better. Anyhoo, no yeti products for me.

Sent email to Yeti WillNever Buy their products. Time for conservative Americans to stand up for Our Values!

  • Proudvietvet58

We have invested a lot of money in Yeti products up until now. The very people who support Yeti are being forced to choose between the NRA and Yeti based on their stance towards the NRA which I personally resent. The bulk of their end users are sportsmen and sports women. I venture to say those same people, including myself, will no longer support Yeti or any other company that attempts to damage our Constitution or Bill of Rights that have been defended since their inception.

We, as a Family, will destroy all Yeti products we have by the end of this day.

who the hell could afford their products, anyway?…geez…”Rtic” has the same stuff at 1/3rd the price at Buc-ee’s……at 30$ stainless steel cup can be had at wal-mart for 7.94$…ok, so the ice will melt in 24 hours instead of 25 hour with yeti…so what?…the return is just not there for the extra big bucks spent…screw them…i had a choice of buying a yeti 48-qt. cooler or making a house payment…i went with the house payment…the stuff they sell at academy is plenty good enough for the 99.9% of people who cannot afford yeti…it’s just a waste of money…you owe it to yourself to get the best price for the most performance you can afford…

  • sargentrage

never heard of yeti. but I will boycott them any way

  • Benjamin Flanagan

Well I called YETI and they never heard of Will. He must be an uncover spy for the Democrats.

    • Will

I’m not a YETI employee. You’ll notice I said that I called them – yesterday – AND – today. I informed YETI that they’re Press Release didn’t clarify that each of the 400+ organizations each had a special program with YETI. Each organization had a different agreement – which wasn’t a contract either. The change was to simplify their business process.

Call (512-394-9384) yourself! So far I’ve spoke to Carly and Gage. They are fielding questions like your. Call them (512-394-9384), and ask the questions yourself.

Don’t be a low-information person. Respect your own intellect and call them (512-394-9384), yourself. You’ll be surprised.

The article was misinformation from the NRA – Hate to say it, but it was.

  • TRUTH_B_TOLD

I will not do any business that has yeti on there shelves, Told them this at Sportsman’s Guide in South Saint Paul who used to sell them and they sell guns too so guess who is going to lose out? So long yeti

  • I think the media is slanting the facts to support it’s agenda again. People have to realize that the companies that offer discounts to ANY group take that amount of money as a loss. A lot of companies can sustain that amount of loss by making it up in volume but, a lot of companies have come to the realization that, although they give a discount to organization members, their volume did not increase to over ride that loss. So, a lot of the suppliers are using the present politics as a reason to resend the discount agreement. Thus putting that percent of the money back into the bottom line. It’s strictly and business and money decision and by using the political atmosphere as an excuse they hope to generate more sales from the anti gummers. Which probably not happen because these young liberals don’t buy a lot of these products. I say, let’s not purchase from these companies. Remember Money talks and bull crap walks.

  • Bud Bolf

This is how false stories get started.
I saw this story elsewhere and I wrote a nasty email to Yeti and said that I will never do business with them…
Below is their reply..which indicates the story could NOT be further from the truth…
    —————————————————————————————————————————————————-
We’re writing in response to your recent email inquiry.

A few weeks ago, YETI notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, YETI explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20.

Further, the NRA-ILA stated in that same public communication that “[YETI has] declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities.” Nothing is further from the truth. YETI was founded more than 10 years ago with a passion for the outdoors, and over the course of our history we have actively and enthusiastically supported hunters, anglers and the broader outdoor community. We have been devoted to and will continue to directly support causes tied to our passion for the outdoors, including by working with many organizations that promote conservation and management of wildlife resources and habitat restoration. From our website to our film footage and from our social media posts to our ambassadors, YETI has always prominently featured hunters pursuing their passions. Moreover, YETI is unwavering in our belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.

Thanks for reaching out to YETI.
